ALPINE MOUNTAINEERING
The Alps offer many objectives at all levels of difficulty and altitude (up to 4810m : Mont Blanc). The alpine arena, however, can be bewildering – we know, we’ve been bewildered too!
Hiring a Guide allows you to short cut the mystique, and get some great routes or summits under your belt as you learn with professionals who have spent years gathering “the knowledge”!
That learning can start in the UK, with a alpine prep course, getting the basics in place, and allowing you time to consolidate heading out to the alps. Autumn is a great time of year for this; shorter days and cooler temperatures, maybe a dusting of new snow in some way mimic the Alpine mountaineering game; pre-dawn starts and climbing in the dark, and the need for “momentum” in a days adventure.
Ridge climbing and technical mountaineering might include enchaining classics such as; up Tower Ridge or Observatory Ridge and down Ledge Route on Ben Nevis. Up North Buttress and down Curved Ridge on Buachaille Etive Mor.
